WSU celebrates victory over TUT
WSU rugby team becomes victorious after, defeating TUT
in a varsity cup on Monday 20 February 2017. Match started 06:30 pm
at TUT stadium Pretoria west, it was indeed the night of WSU, after paralyzing
FNB TUT in their home ground advantage. FNB
WSU’s Xolani Mbombo took advantage and registered their first try in two
minutes into the game, and Zizipho Kayi scored the conversion making 8-0.
With thirty seconds left the visitors added two points
more through a penalty, by FNB WSU’s Zizipho Kayi, making it 10-0.
WSU went to half- time leading with 10-5.The was so much
frustrations on the coach of FNB TUT Jan Smith, hence the TUT fans never
lost hope; they kept singing non-stop trying to boost the confidence of their
trailing side.
TUT made a comeback in round four, having energy to win
the match, but FNB WSU never allowed them to overtake. TUT- struggled in
slippery conditions as they tried to gain momentum. A minute into the second
half, the visitors Ntando Mfengu opened with a try making it 15-5. Eight
minutes later Zizipho Nkayi scored another penalty extending the All Blacks
which resulted to a lead of 17-5.
Three and half minute later, FNB TUT’s player Tshepo
Nyathi gave a try to consolidate home side and with team’s flyhalf Litha Vumisa
converted it, reducing the gap between the two sides making it 17-13. The home
side’s team tried to attack towards the end of the game, but all blacks had a
strong defence until the match ended at 17-13. It was the kicking boot of
Athenkosi Ndzenene in rainy conditions who successfully granted man of the
match in the varsity cup match.
